Voting Question: I'm shocked! Shocked, I say! "Fed Audit Bitterly Opposed by Treasury!!" Would you ever have predicted that?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/08/fed-audit-bitterly-oppose_n_490872.html " The Treasury Department is vigorously opposed to a House-passed measure that would open the Federal Reserve to an audit by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), a senior Treasury official said Monday. Instead, the official said, the Treasury prefers a substitute offered by Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.), and would like to see it enacted as part of the Senate bill. The Watt measure, however, while claiming to increase transparency, actually puts new restrictions on the GAO's ability to perform an audit. Secretary Tim Geithner, Assistant Treasury Secretary Alan Krueger and Gene Sperling, a counselor to the secretary, held a briefing Monday with new media reporters and financial bloggers during which they discussed the Fed audit and other topics. Under the briefing's ground rules, the officials could be paraphrased but not quoted, and the paraphrase could not be connected to a specific official. HuffPost reporter Sam Stein lodged what he called a "formal complaint" against the ground rules. The complaint was noted and the briefing began. Asked whether he supports the House-passed measure to open the Fed to an audit, which was cosponsored by Reps. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) and Ron Paul (R-Texas), a senior Treasury official said he is intensely opposed to it. " What do you think? Oh, and for those who complain about this being from Huff Po, only the liberal bloggers were invited to this Treasury/Fed confab. So, reactions? SilverPhoenix, I plan to look at when I have a bigger block of time all at once. Encorecapital financialgroup etc....have it written down.

Resolved Question: I'm trying to find some great hot springs in New Mexico?!? Anybody know of any?

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip for spring break. Originally we had planned on going to Colorado and going to the hot springs in Steamboat Springs because we have been there before and we absolutely loved it. Then we realized if we find a hot springs in New Mexico, it will cut our lodging and our gas bill in half (we live in Texas.) The problem is I'm having a hard time finding websites that give very much information on the hot springs in New Mexico. Anyone have any experience? Or at least have any good websites to get information??

Voting Question: Temporary Living Expenses Tax Deduction?

I work as a contractor, and I live in California and relocated to Texas for a 6 month project. My company reimbursed me for my moving expenses (shipment of my car, plane ticket, and airplane ticket). Can I get a tax deduction for lodging expenses or rent under Temporary Living Expenses while I was working on the short term project? I was living with my parents before the move, and I moved back with my parents after the project was over.

Resolved Question: Pick me a nice vacation - I've never had one before!!?

Other than a day-trip to St. Augustine, I've never been on a proper vacation in my life. I've only traveled to visit family, and that was to MN or WV so go figure. I finally have a week off and some money to spend, so I want go on a vacation, and there are so many options I'm not sure what to do. I'm not picky, so long as there are a few factors I'll stick to: I live in Texas, fairly new here. I am looking for something inexpensive (read: total of $2000 or less with gas, food, motel/other lodging and attractions included), and want to stick to warm climates, so anywhere in FL, AL, MS, LA, TX, NM, AZ is good. I like things like theme parks, history/art museums depending on the cultural background, and am interested in doing either really relaxing things (think beach lounging, fruity drinks) or really challenging for a beginner (think hiking, camping, etc, but in a venue where I can have nice pics and maybe a souveniur or two to bring home) Basically, I know if I go to LA, I can do Mardi Gras/FL I can do Disney or beaches, and so am looking for other suggestions for off-the-beaten-path type vacations. One-stop or multi-stop; I have ten days! :) Notes: I've lived in FL and done Disney, so not looking for that experience again. I resided Tampa and Orlando, so if suggesting something there, let me know whats down in Miami or up the panhandle - NOT a non-stop party like I hear southbeach is! :) On TX - I live in San Antonio. :) Am planning to get around the weekend-getaways for Texas surrounding area throughout the year - February is my one week with time to T...R...A...V...E...L :)
