Resolved Question: This is breaking news what do you think Federal Agencies Nixing Conventions Over State's Immigration Law?
Two federal agencies have joined the "boycott Arizona" trend and nixed conferences
there out of concern over the state's immigration law, a Democratic Arizona congresswoman said, calling the development "very troubling."
Any cancellations by the Department of Education and the U.S. Border Patrol may have been more out of a desire to steer clear of controversy than outright protest of the law. But Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who has written to dozens of cities and groups in a campaign to persuade them to end their boycotts, said it was disturbing to learn that the federal government would withdraw from the state over the issue.
"It is very troubling when the federal government becomes involved in a boycott against our state," Giffords said in a written statement. "Although I personally disagree with the immigration law, it came about because of growing frustration over the federal government's unwillingness to secure the border. The federal government's participation in this boycott only adds to that frustration."
The Department of Education issued a statement to Fox News confirming that a program administrator, though not the Education Department itself, canceled a 2010 convention "at the request of one of our trilateral partners."
According to Giffords, the department's North American Mobility program convention set for October at a Tucson resort was nixed after the Mexican government said it would not send any representatives to the meeting. The department then moved the event to Minnesota.

The Border Patrol -- which has more than 4,000 agents in Arizona, representing nearly a quarter of its force -- had booked 40 rooms for the event before canceling, though there was no contract signed for the event, according to Giffords' office.
Giffords' office said the cancellations were confirmed by the Arizona Hotel and Lodging Association. The congresswoman is among a number of Arizona officials who argue that the boycotts imposed by cities across the country do nothing to change the law and only punish workers and businesses there. The boycotts would hit the hospitality industry, which is made up in large part of Hispanic workers, particularly hard.
Colleagues in Arizona slammed the federal government over the cancellations on Thursday. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., called the news "very disappointing."
Arizona Republican Rep. Trent Franks said the apparent cancellations show the administration is using "federal agencies as political tools" to "harm our state's economy for having the audacity to protect our citizens."
"These boycotts completely disprove the Obama administration's disingenuous claims that they are in any way interested in strengthening border security," he said in a written statement to FoxNews.com.
In the letter she has been sending to cities and groups that have imposed boycotts, Giffords wrote that the punitive measures have "unfairly targeted" her state's businesses.
The Obama administration is planning to file suit against the Arizona law, citing its sustained concern about the move to subject some residents to routine checks on their immigration status.
So far, a couple of cities have written Giffords back defending their actions against her state.
El Paso Mayor John Cook wrote in a letter to the congresswoman June 10 that his city was not "condoning" illegal immigration by passing a resolution that prohibits city officials from attending conferences in Arizona. He said his city's measure, though not a full-fledged boycott, emphasizes the importance of passing a comprehensive immigration overhaul and "expresses our concerns with the possibility of law enforcement racially profiling people."
Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell also wrote this month that its ban on employee travel to the state -- and a reconsideration of city contracts there -- was imposed out of concern for racial profiling.

Resolved Question: this happened to me, what would u do?
i asked this questions before but i didn't get any good answers, so here it is again:
ur 11-years old and kayaking with ur (11-year-old) cousin and for some dumb reason, u stand up and fall in the lake. ur 83 miles from Canada (in Minnesota) and the lake is freezing even though it's July. and, of course, ur really far out in the lake and u can barely see ur lodge because your glasses slipped off ur nose and their already making their way to the bottom of the lake (which is quite far). oh and also, u don't know this but there are fish with very big and sharp teeth swimming around in the lake. oh and it's impossible to get back in a kayake after falling out!!!!
so what do u do??
this happened to me. but i'm not going to say how it all ended, i will tell what happened when i pick a best answer. the best answer has to be closest to what actually happened.
HAVE FUN AND DON'T BECOME DEPRESSED BECAUSE THERE IS A WAY OUT OF THIS!!!!!!!!!! LOL!
ps whenever i think about this, i get really freaked out because i remember ever tiny detail and so i can just be right there again. and its' really scary!!!!!

Resolved Question: How much money for this vacation?
I would have free lodging the entire vacation.
I would possibly be driving with some friends from Minnesota to New Jersey to stay with a good friend for a week (20hrs) sometime in September. I have about $1k in my bank account right now but I have no income currently. I will have an income by the time I went on the trip. Plane tickets are also pretty cheap also which we are considering.
Anyway, we would probably spend a few days in NYC, Atlantic City, and Seaside Heights. How much money would you say I would be comfortable with?

Resolved Question: How much should we spend on the wedding gift?
My husband and I are traveling from Texas to Minnesota for his brother's wedding. We will be spending quite a bit of money just getting to the wedding location and our lodging while there. Plane ticket for me - $300.00; gas for my husband to drive up and back - $100.00(?); tux rental for my husband (he's the best man) - $130.00; hotel room for two nights - $200.00; chipping in for food and alcohol at joint bachelor/bachelorette party - $30.00.
What would be an appropriate amount to spend on a wedding gift for them? When my husband and I got married last year, his brother and fiancee spent around $50 on our gift and did not have the added expenses like we do of traveling.

Resolved Question: What do U think of this arrest Man, woman charged after hotel check turns up almost 300 stolen bras ?
While looking for drugs the Dakota County Drug Task Force and Airport Police Narcotics Unit found nearly 300 stolen bras instead at the Travel Lodge Hotel in Burnsville.
Juan Malpartida, 33, and Mercedes Ortiz, 41, of Elizabeth, N.J., were arrested Jan. 30 during a routine drug check at the hotel. They were charged Feb. 2 in Dakota County District Court for allegedly stealing $4,000 in clothing from metro businesses.
Both are in Dakota County Jail in Hastings. Bail has been set at $60,000 for Ortiz and $50,000 for Malpartida. They were charged with possession of stolen property and possession of shoplifted gear, both felonies. The couple faces immigration violations, also a felony.
The maximum sentence, if convicted, is 10 years and $20,000 for possession of stolen property and three years and $3,000 for possession of shoplifted gear.
Criminal complaints against Ortiz and Malpartida provided the following account and allegations:
Ortiz and Malpartida's hotel registration came up as suspicious for officials who found them registered as being from Gainesville, Texas, and their room was paid for in cash.
Officers knew from experience that Texas was a source state for narcotics getting to Minnesota and drug traffickers often paid in cash to stay at hotels.
Canines checked the exterior of the couple's vehicle in the hotel parking lot and officers knocked on the room door receiving no answer. Plain-clothed officers waited until the couple returned to the hotel room and then asked to search the inside.
Officers found multiple forms of identification for Ortiz and Malpartida including passports from Peru and a Puerto Rican driver's license with other names. Shopping bags lined with foil to evade store security were found along with tools to remove security tags.
Agents then looked through the couple's van where the clothing and bras with tags attached were found.
Both will appear in court Monday, March 2, in Hastings.
